Jim Ford (“Chief”)

Jim was a founding member of the Diamond State Classic Foundation and Tournament. A great official, he was known for his fairness and knowledge of the game; calling state championships in the boys and girls divisions. As a member of the committee, he was instrumental in running the tournament from it’s inception in 1990. Due to his illness, Jim could not devote as much time and energy to the tournament over the last few years, but he made it a point to present the Jim Ford Award each year to a deserving player.

Buddy Hurlock

Everyone in Delaware who followed high school sports knew Buddy Hurlock. He was a passionate high school sports beat writer for The News Journal. Buddy added so much to our tournment by ensuring coverage leading up to and during the tournament. We will never forget the detailed team profiles and tournament previews that Buddy created each year. You could always find Buddy at the scorers table following each game and tracking stats or writing the game recaps to make News Journal deadlines. His dedication to the Diamond State Classic and especially to high school sports in Delaware will be missed but forever remembered.
