As many of you know the Diamond State Classic Foundation is in partnership with Special Olympics Delaware and this year we are sponsoring 3 Unified games. One on December 29 and 2 on December 30. This is from Jon Buzby Media Director of the Special Olympics Delaware.

Unified basketball is now an official sport under the umbrella of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association with 14 teams taking part in the inaugural season.

Unified sports bring together people with and without disabilities to play on the same team. On a Unified basketball team there are 3 Special Olympics athletes and 2 Unified partners (peers without a disability) on the court at the same time.

The 2018/19 seasons tips off with 10 schools showcasing their talents in National Tournaments right here in the First State.

The Diamond State Classic will host three Unified games at the St. E Center in Wilmington. Appoquinimink takes on Middletown on Dec. 29 at 4:00 p.m., and then, on Dec. 30, McKean plays William Penn at 1:30 p.m. followed by Mount Pleasant vs. Newark Charter at 5:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

In addition to the 10 schools listed above, Delcastle, Glasgow, Indian River and Milford are fielding Unified basketball teams for this inaugural season. Regular-season schedules can be found at www.websites4sports.com.

Unified Sports are also offered at the interscholastic high school level in flag football and track & field.

Thank you Jon
